Tor is well known and respected as the best most efficient most
anonymous proxy service. The Onion Routing makes the user almost
completely untraceable.

- First thing first, download the install package. (the one with Privoxy and TorCP is the best)
- Next, double click it, and hit next a bunch of times
- Okay, now start up Tor. The Icon should look like this
- once you have it running you should hope to see this:

- Note, the "Tor has successfully opened a circuit, looks like it's
working" line happened a few seconds after you load up the program. No
need to panic if your window doesn't look like this one immediately.
Give it a minute or so.
- Once your Tor window looks the same as the one on my screen, feel
free to close it. Now, Click on your My Computer Icon, then go to the C
drive, from there go to Program Files (or wherever else you saved it to
in the insallation, most likely Program Files.) and look through the
files for two folders, one entitled "TorCP" and one entitled "Privoxy."
- Run both programs within those files. You should see this:

- Note the Green/Blue P icon, that shows privoxy is running. Also
note the onion with the green check, that shows Tor is running (onion
routing...)
- Now that you have all your programs set up, the hard part is over.
Now you just have to configure it like a regular HTTP proxy server.
For Firefox - Tools > Options > Connection Settings
- check Manual Proxy connection and change every box to say
either '127.0.0.1' or 'localhost' (their the same thing really) and
then make the port 8118 or 9050. (in every box to be safe
- then check "Use this proxy for all protocols" and hit OK. (twice)
For IE (Internet Explorer) Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > Lan Settings
- Now check the "Use a Proxy" box and type in '127.0.0.1' or
'localhost' and make the port 8118. If you want to be hardcore you can
just hit 'advanced' and set it up like you would Firefox. Press OK, and
that is it.
One can set up Tor for IRC and AIM as well-
For mIRC - Tools > Options > Firewall
- Change firewall support to "both," and the protocol to Socks5.
Change the Hostname to 127.0.0.1 or "localhost" and change the port to
9050.
For X-Chat - Go to Settings > Preferences > Network > Network Setup > Proxy Server
- and fill in the information,
- Server : "localhost" or "127.0.0.1"
- Port : 9050
- Type : Socks5
The irc server you can connect to is : lxkghnyg2owy6scd.onion- use : /server lxkghnyg2owy6scd.onion
- then /join #iran
For AIM - Setup > Preferences > Sign on/off > "Connection" button
- From here check the connect using proxy box and fill in the
information, localhost or 127.0.0.1 and the port should be 9050, the
type Socks5.
